During WW11, My family returned from the town, and parked their  car in the Elms Vale Garage. They had not gone far when a bomb landed on the garage. The car was totally wrecked, except for the rear view mirror
On Monday 9 September 1940, the sirens sounded at 1700. Charles Goodbourne was passing Taylor’s Garage in Elms Vale Rd when a shell exploded killing him instantly. When the ruins were further investigated, they found 17 year old Basil Wells who was seriously injured—he died later in hospital.  Also on Friday 13th October 1940, three further bombs hit Elms Vale area without warning
Marks on the inner garage wall and a girder can still be seen today

The bomb came through the roof and hit the girder and wall seen in the 1st pic( and the marks can still be seen today).
