Brought over from KHF SITE.

On duty at our ARP Post at the top of Ordnance Street on a dark night, we saw an aircraft
in trouble. It`s engine was on fire & making a racket. We saw it it past over Chatham,
then carried on towards Gravesend. We reported it. It was the first Flying Bomb reported in
Britain. It crashed at Greenhithe in Kent. May have caught a Barrage Balloon wire at Cobham.


I was an ARP Messenger at the time - age 16 - I joined at age 14
