We visited Cliffs End Hall before the war, the Scales family home. It was situated near Ramsgate.
The family was well off, as my sister was employed as an under parlour maid. We had tea there.
I remember six Saint Bernard dogs there. The family has entertained the Emporer of Ethiopia,
Haile Selassie at their home. I wonder if the master of the house was a high civil servant !
