Endurance

(1/1)

castle261:
I worked on H.M.S. Endurance in No 5 dock in Chatham dockyard., It was decided that a new mast
was to be installed aft, consisting of a long mast with many anchoring points to keep it upright.
All went well, we uninstalled the old mast, the new one was put in place the guy wires held by
sailors. three sets of four were tightened up. At last it was finished, when someone noticed the
weather cap was not in place at the bottom of the mast. The sailors undid all the guy wires, then the petty officer fitted the cap under the mast, tightened all the guy wires. All finished.
